Hello Camp Ever Greens Families~

Spring has sprung at Camp Ever Greens and we have been enjoying the sunshine and, of course, a bit of rain!
In March we had fun focusing on creating our own Leprechaun traps by drawing detailed plans and then executing them with our materials on-hand. The Tuesday group created their own personal traps while our Thursday group worked together to create one ultimate trap! Unfortunately, those sneaky little fellows only visited and left behind some coins and crackers. Maybe next year we will finally catch one!
The last few weeks have been all about collage. We have found so many ways to create individual art pieces from found objects, torn paper, noodles, coffee filters, you name it!  Each child has their own way of creating these pieces which leads to more discussion on what art means to us and how it is different for each person. What a great discovery and one that I especially enjoy sharing with the kids.
Outside, we have been enjoying some great spring activities. Our fabulous counselor Matthew often brings his guitar to join the kids in music time as well as just being our “traveling minstrel” around the park as the kids play with their favorite outdoor toys: hula hoops, balls and bean bags.  We have also been using our senses in the park to create sound maps (sitting quietly to hear what is happening around us and then drawing the location of each sound on a grid) and scavenger hunts to find natural objects we didn’t know were there (are there any evergreen trees dropping pine needles in the park? How about acorns?)
Another super cool learning experience we had this month was brought to us by our Mixed Greens friend Ronin and his Coach Rich, from Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu. Ronin and Coach Rich showed us a few sweet moves and taught all the friends some simple self-defense techniques.  So inspiring, thank you so much Ronin and Rich!

We are looking forward to the last 6 weeks of Camp Ever Greens and please remember that the last day of our program is Friday, June 3rd. While we will not be offering a summer camp, we will be back in September so please let me know as soon as possible if you would like me to add your child(ren) to the 2016/2017 list of returning Camp Ever Greeners. If you have any questions, please let me know. And thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!

Kind regards
Alyssa Rumrill
